Biography
Patrick Vu (b. 1998) is a composer and conductor from Allen, Texas whose work has quickly gained international attention. Known for his lyrical and expressive compositional voice, Patrick has received commissions and performances from leading ensembles across the United States and beyond, including VocalEssence, Chor Leoni, Dallas Chamber Choir, Chorus Austin, National Children's Choir of Great Britain, Turtle Creek Chorale, the Princeton Singers, Young New Yorkers’ Chorus, International Orange Chorale of San Francisco, Choral Arts Ensemble of Portland, Washington Master Chorale, Fort Worth Opera, and the Savannah VOICE Festival, among many universities and professional choirs.
His music has been featured at regional and national ACDA conferences, state conventions, SCI Conferences, and other festivals around the world. In 2023, Patrick was awarded the ACDA Raymond Brock Prize for Student Composers for his choral work “On the Hillside.” In 2026, he will make his Carnegie Hall debut with a newly commissioned choral premiere through National Concerts.
Though largely self-published, Patrick’s choral works appear in catalogs with Gentry, Hinshaw, Galaxy, Carl Fischer, Hal Leonard, and Alliance. In addition to his choral music, his art songs are published with North Star Music as part of the Modern Music for New Singers series. He has collaborated with and studied in private masterclasses with Eriks Esenvalds, André J. Thomas, Libby Larson, Steven Sametz, Michael Ching, and Jake Heggie.
Patrick currently serves as the Artistic Director of the Allen Symphony Chorus and as a choir director at Rockwall-Heath High School and St. Monica Catholic Church in Dallas. In addition to these roles, he is an active conductor and a highly sought-after clinician for school, church, community, collegiate, and professional choirs.
In 2022, Patrick earned dual undergraduate degrees in Music Composition and Music Education from Texas Christian University, studying composition with Dr. Martin Blessinger and conducting with Dr. Christopher Aspaas. In 2024, he completed his MM in Choral Conducting at Texas Tech University under Dr. Alan Zabriskie.
